Gili sunut is a fisherman island which hasn’t been touched by tourism life. This originality makes this place attractive. The beautiful scenery of the nature that still a secret has make this place rare to be visited by visitors.

Gili sunut beach has clear and calm waves, that make this place perfect for family vacation. The water area is suitable to have water activities such as snorkeling, diving, canoeing, or simply swimming. In the east side of the gili, there is a small yard that you can use as camping ground.

If the boat that taking you from Lombok island is docked at Gili Sunut, it means that you’re in the west side of the gili. This part of island is centre of people’s houses. Once you step into Gili Sunut village, you will take some stairs made from rock and you will be welcomed by the friendly people.

Gili sunut is dwelled by approximately 109 families. They not only work as fisherman but also as cattler, and firewood seller. In the house complex, you will see people’s houses in stories because they stand in the non flat ground. Those houses are still traditional and simple. While you take aa look at the houses, you will find people’s activity such as cutting fish, lifting blue gallon of fresh water and making net.

Around the island, you will find karamba (woven basket to breed fishes) which belong to local people. In those karamba, the people breed shrimp, crab, kerapu fish and squid. You will also see among the karamba there is a floating house that is used as a study place for fishermen’s children.

In the north side of the gili, you can take a walk in the afternoon at a meadow which face to the beach. This meadow usually used by local people to look after their sheeps.

To enjoy the beauty of Gili Sunut, you have to stay in. because the boat to cross Lombok island-gili sunut, only operates one a day. To reach this place from Mataram city, you may take personal/public transportation. If you use personal car/motorbike, head your vehicle by route Mataram-Cakranegara-Sweta-Kediri-Praya-Keruak-Tanjung Luar. While if you take public transportation, you have to change four different routes : Mataram-Bertais, Bertais-Praya, Praya-Keruak-, and Keruak-Tanjung Luar. From small harbor at Tanjung Luar you have to cross using public crossing boat. It takes 1 hour to reach Gili Sunut.

There is another alternative if you use personal car/motorbike, which is by route of Pancor-Jeruk Waru- Pemongkang village. From Pemongkang village you have to use fisherman’s boat to cross which will take 5 minutes. When the water is in low tide, you can cross it by walking. This is a challenging route indeed, but along the way you will see very traditional houses and you can visit Gelui beach which is a pearl breeding place.
